Flip Side Quick and Easy Kid's Quilt

Updated: Feb 15, 2019

This is a quilt for kids that doesn't take much fabric.

You will need 6 fat quarter metres (20" by 22"approx) and approximately 24" of sashing material.

Finished Size is approx. 40 .5 " by 47.5".

Place your fabric so that the selvedge is towards you.

We used a Northcott collection by Michelle Scott called A is for Alligator.

Cut (2) slices 4 1/2" wide and (1) 8 1/2" wide.

Subcut each of the 4 1/2" slices into (2)4 1/2" by 12 1/2" and (2)4 1/2" by 8 1/2".

Subcut the 8 1/2" slice into (1) 8 1/2" by 12 1/2" and (2) 8 1/2" by 4 1/2".

Set the last (2) aside.

Use the 5 remaining pieces to form the block as pictured above.

Slice down the middle of the large piece .

Turn the right half of the block upside down.

Add a sashing strip cut 2" by 16 1/2" to the centre of each block.

Continue adding sashing strips to each side of the block.

Each row will consist of two complete blocks.

Take the (2) 4 1/2" by 8 1/2" pieces that you set aside. Join them on the narrow edge.

Add to the right side of your row. Add one more sashing strip just to the side with the 4 1/2" by 16 1/2" unit.

You will have a sashing strip on one end of your row only.

Repeat for your 3 rows.

Turn the half unit to the left on one row and to the right on the next.

This will offset the sashing rows.

Repeat for the last row.

Join the rows and your quilt top is finished!
